Kim Avis has given up his fight against being extradited from the USA.

The 55-year-old, who is also known as Kim Gordon, waived extradition during a court appearance in Denver, Colorado, according to a spokesman from the US Department of Justice.

The UK had requested Avis's extradition back to Scotland where he is facing 24 charges which include five rapes, two cases of child sexual abuse, attempted rape, three sex assaults and four violent attacks.

He had been due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in March but went to the US instead.

After disappearing while apparently going swimming in the sea off California he was eventually traced and apprehended in Colorado Springs, 1300 miles away.

It is not expected there will be any further American court proceedings and he will be transported back to the UK by the US Marshals Service, possibly by the end of the week.
