A 21-year-old from Inverness has had a picture-perfect career so far and is soon to appear as a guest speaker at the biggest event for his industry in the UK.

Dylan Morrison has been taking photos since an early age, and over the years he has gone from strength to strength as a professional photographer.

Having started out taking pictures of scenic landscapes in the Highlands he is now a resident photographer at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow capturing images of musicians such as Shania Twain and Rod Stewart.

Speaking about how his passion for photography started, Dylan said: “It was by chance someone gave me a camera as a present when I was younger, and it never left my side from then.

“I would take pictures wherever we were, whether we were out on day trips or in Inverness city centre.

“I am completely self-taught, and my first big opportunity came in 2017 when I was given the opportunity to photograph the Highland Military Tattoo at Fort George.

“This gave me an insight into the industry and kickstarted my career. I was then given the position of club photographer at Inverness Caley Thistle which I did for two seasons.

“This was different type of photography which was fantastic and fast paced and I’m very grateful to have had that opportunity.”

Dylan then had the chance to be involved with photography at Inverness Airport, taking pictures of the first flight leaving for Amsterdam in 2018.

He has since moved down to Glasgow to be better placed to go to assignments and recently took photos at the London Film Festival on the red carpet.

Next month Dylan takes to the stage at The Photography Show in Birmingham to share his experience of live music photography.

He said: “Inverness set me up for what I’m doing now. I was taking pictures at The Ironworks and I have done a lot of work with Eden Court.

“I’ve been taking pictures at Belladrum each year since 2018 and last year my pictures of Kiefer Sutherland appeared in a magazine!

“I wouldn’t be where I am now without the opportunities I’ve had at home.”

Dylan claims his success at young age is down to perseverance and by asking for opportunities.

“Perseverance is key,” said Dylan, “my mindset is that if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

“I’m not afraid of being turned down and turned away, the worst thing people will say is no.”
