ONE further positive test for Covid-19 has been recorded in the Highlands – as the Scotland-wide tally increased by a further 17.

There have now been 341 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the NHS Highland area since the pandemic began. In Scotland as a whole, that figure now stands as 15,682 after rising from yesterday's total of 15,665.

Nationally there were also five further fatalities reported among those who had tested positive, although there was better news elsewhere – with the number of people needing hospital treatment falling from 623 on Wednesday to 613 at midnight last night.

And, while there was a new case of Covid-19 confirmed in the Highlands, the number of those diagnosed who were receiving hospital treatment in the region also dropped – down two to seven.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new positive tests for Covid-19 in Eileanan Siar, Shetland or Orkney.

NHS Grampian and NHS Tayside both recorded solitary new positive tests apiece, and saw their total number of confirmed cases rise to 1288 and 1685 respectively.
