DELAYS are continuing on the Highland rail line after a freight train broke down at Kingussie this morning.

Disruption has been caused to services from Inverness to Glasgow and Edinburgh with some trains being cancelled.

Replacement buses have been introduced along the route.

The freight train broke down at around 8.20am, with an engine fault thought to be the problem.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “We’re sorry to customers who’ve been caught up in disruption caused by a broken down freight train, and share their frustrations when this happens.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep people moving, and anyone delayed by 30 minutes or more is entitled to claim money back through our Delay Repay Guarantee.”

The line was cleared by midday but some disruption is expected to last into the afternoon.
