A sheriff has criticised a 28 year old woman for obtaining £300 by fraud from an 80 year old man.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson told Ann McCallum, now of Queens Road, Inverbervie, that it was "despicable behaviour preying on an 80 year old" when the mother of one appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court.

McCallum had previously admitted obtaining the cash by fraud at the TSB in Inglis Street in Inverness on February 10, 2020.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood told the court that the pensioner received a call from the bank in March about the suspicious transaction.

The police were contacted and when CCTV was reviewed, McCallum was seen to obtain the cash after signing paperwork.

The court heard that at the time McCallum had drug and alcohol problems and used the cash to buy drugs.

But Sheriff Neilson was told that McCallum had changed and regular testing of her over a long period had proved negative.

McCallum was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community work and remain under social work supervision for a year.
