Former Provost Alex Graham has said maintenance of open spaces "needs to improve".

Councillor Graham, who represents Inverness West, spoke out at today's full Highland Council meeting during a debate on amenity services.

He said the grass cutting service this year had been the worst he could remember since the 1980s.

Cllr Graham said: "Play equipment is also not being repaired and roundabouts look terrible.

"Council housing areas are not being looked after, however privately-owned ground often looks much better than what is maintained by the council.

"The appearance of our area is important for visitors as well as residents.

"Tourism is an important local industry for Inverness and the Highlands."
