A former beautician beat up her tattooist boyfriend after he abandoned her in a hotel to go to a job in Fortrose, a court has heard.

Jodie Hannan (33) assaulted the man in a car park of a property in the village’s Feddon Hill on November 17 after being provoked, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute David Morton said the pair had been in a relationship at the time and had been on a two-night break in Inverness.

He said: “The complainer and the accused were in a relationship with one another.

“They were not from the local area but had come to the Inverness area for a night away.”

The court was told that while staying at a hotel in the Highland capital, Hannan’s then-boyfriend took her mum’s car to a tattooing job in Fortrose, leaving her for hours alone in their room.

She eventually paid for a taxi to the address and when she confronted him an argument ensued between the pair.

During the row, Hannan’s passport and bank card were taken from her, destroyed and thrown down an embankment outside by the man, Mr Morton said.

She then took a metal spray can and threw it at his head, striking him with it.

She then grabbed his hair while he was on the ground and dragged him along by it.

Defence agent Marc Dickson said his client was a former beautician who was currently unemployed and a mother of two young children.

He described the relationship between the pair as “very unhealthy”.

Mr Dickson said: “She arrived at the house concerned. She was upset, she accepts this.”

Hannan, of Roseburn Gardens, Dundee, was told to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work.

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald said: “This is an exceptionally unpleasant matter which you find yourself involved in.”
