The owner of food business Capability Brown has announced she is calling it a day.

A specialist Highland food business has announced it is calling it a day from next month.

Capability Brown, whose customers include Velocity in Inverness and Inverness Cathedral cafe, also runs pop-up supper clubs, breakfast clubs and afternoon teas plus private one-to-one baking and cooking classes.

As well as being passionate about using local, sustainable and seasonal ingredients, the business is also renowned for its baking.

In a post on social media, the owner said that from September 16 she would be hanging up her apron.

"I originally started my business nearly 12 years ago and even after stopping it for 18 months somewhere in the middle, I have had a good run at it," she stated.

"My decision is based on several things, but mainly because of continued rising energy, fuel and ingredients.

"As I supply mainly to trade, its very difficult to keep adjusting my prices in line with how things are creeping up as the businesses I supply are in the same boat as I am.

"I am not sad, I am not negative, its simply time to call it a day, but not before thanking each and every one of you who has liked, shared, eaten, come to a class, a supper club, an event etc

"My business was born out of a love of food and a love of people and that part carries on. The genuine friends I have made over the last 12 years has been worth every 4am start."

She will continue to supply Velocity, the Cathedral cafe and Cup and Cake until September 16 but has already cut back.

She continued: "I have a feeling the next decade is going to be a bit of a bumpy ride with everything that's going on in the world so please look after each other, be kind and support local.

"I'm fortunate in that I was able to make the decision for myself, many businesses have to keep going until they start losing money so please be kind to them."

The announcement, signed by Elizabeth aka as Capability, has prompted messages and tributes from fans.

Coffee Rescue Scotland said: "Yes, we agree with your view on costs and challenge. Challenging times now and ahead."

Tony Ross stated: "It's a hard world we live in, money-wise and everything-else-wise."

Highland businesses are on the brink

The Andersons described it as "a true loss to the Highland food scene".

Gill McDonald said the owner had made a name for herself in a very hard market and opened up opportunity to many vegetarian and vegan possibilities

Debbie Ross reflected: "We’re sad, even if you’re not! It’s rare to find someone with so much love and passion it infuses their food. Your wonderful bakes and you will be sorely missed."
