For 26 years the late Walter Black worked in the Glen Mhor Hotel – and even when he retired, his framed photo graced the wall of the back bar.

But now even “old Walter’s” photo has done its last shift, and the picture showing Mr Black looking smart as ever, has gone home to his family.

Hotel general manager Emmanuel Moine presented the photograph to Mr Black’s daughter Christine Moffat.

Mr Black, a barman of the old school, with bow tie and apron, will be remembered fondly by many older Invernessians. He worked at Glen Mhor from 1971 until 1998.

Mr Moine came to the Glen Mhor as a young French work placement student during the summer of 1996 and has fond memories of working with Mr Black.

It was Mr Moine who had the photograph framed and put on display.

The bar area at the rear of the hotel is currently undergoing redevelopment and Mr Moine was pleased to be able to present the photo to his old friend’s family.

The work includes installing a low carbon heat pump large enough to heat the hotel plus nearby properties, including Ness Bank Church.
