Flyover plan for Longman Roundabout on A9 in Inverness takes step forward

DESIGN work toward the construction of a multimillion-pound flyover at the Longman Roundabout in Inverness will start this summer – and is expected to take up to 18 months to complete.

After that the preferred option will be assessed leading to the publication of draft orders for formal comment.

Construction will start if the scheme is approved under the relevant statutory procedures and thereafter a timetable for its progress will be set, said Transport Scotland yesterday.

The Scottish Government has earmarked more than £100 million for the flyover and the proposed East Link road past Smithton which will connect the A9 and A96.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “Following the completion of the A9

“Design work on the grade separation of the roundabout will start later this summer – which will look at options for improving this well-known traffic bottleneck.

“The Inshes to Smithton scheme is also being taken forward as part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal and we are working closely with our colleagues in Highland Council.”
