FLOODLIGHTING could be installed at a community training pitch under new plans before Highland Council.

Kiltarlity Community Council has lodged plans to instal the six 10m high floodlights at Balgate Park in Kiltarlity.

The proposals are aimed at "allowing for extended training hours for shinty and other sports" in the off-season, the community council states in its application form.

It adds: "Lighting [will] only to be used where necessary and will have a cut-off time of 9pm."

"This proposal goes in line with the creation of a grass training pitch, including renewal and minor relocation of the playpark, which do not require planning permission."

A location plan submitted with the application shows that the floodlit training pitch will be located at Lovat Shinty Club, on land to the north and east of the modern clubhouse building.
