FLOODING is set to bring misery to rail passengers after it sparked the closure of the Highland mainline between Inverness and Aviemore.

The "heavy flooding" is located between Inverness and Carrbridge.

A ScotRail spokesman said: "For safety reasons, the line has been closed. Network Rail Scotland engineers are on-site and will monitor the situation throughout the morning."

They added that Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness services will terminate and start back from Aviemore.

Disruption is expected to last until at least 3.15pm.

The spokesman added: "We have sourced some replacement buses to keep everyone moving."

These include two Bay Travel coaches for Perth at around 10am, two D&E coaches for Inverness at around 9.40am and a further two D&E coaches for Inverness at 10am.
