Air passengers planning to fly from Inverness to Heathrow are being warned to be wary of possible disruption arising from strike action at the major UK airport.
Unite union is coordinating 10 days of industrial action by Heathrow Airport security guards from today after talks on a pay settlement broke down.
While the union predicts "severe delays and disruption" for Easter holidaymakers, operators Highlands and Islands Airports (HIAL) say there has been no immediate impact on the local airport or the Inverness to London service.
However, HIAL is asking all customers using British Airways services to the UK capital to make contact with the airline if they are concerned over the potential knock-on effect of any delays.
A HIAL spokesperson said: “We are in regular contact with the BA team at Heathrow and are aware of the strike action at the airport. At this stage there has been no impact on services to Inverness.
“However, we would advise passengers to contact the airline ahead of travelling, if they are concerned that unexpected delays may impact on their travel.”
While Heathrow Airport says it is drafting 1000 extra staff into terminals to assist passengers, travellers are being told to expect delays and longer queues.
