Four new flats are set to be developed above a takeaway in Inverness city centre.

Planning officers have granted permission for the single-bedroom flats above Max’s 2 on the corner between Baron Taylor’s Street and Lombard Street.

The second floor above the takeaway is vacant and the proposal, by Tanveer Siddique, will create a further floor above.

The site is within the Inverness Riverside Conservation Area and opposite a C-listed building. A report by planning officers says the proposal offers a chance for significant improvement to the existing structure.

A change of use application was submitted previously and agreed in principle subject to developer contributions of £18,000, given restricted car parking provision at the location.

The contributions were not paid so the previous application was refused.

A range of conditions, including on materials and provision of a covered communal bicycle storage/racking system, are attached to planning permission.

The report states: “It is considered the proposal is a significant improvement to the existing shop frontage/fascia with the upper floors enhanced with effective use of appropriate design and materials.”
