A specialist fitness instructor has raised more than £500 for an Inverness food bank.

Sarah Malhan, a PiYo teacher, has set up virtual exercise classes during the coronavirus lockdown to raise money for Blythswood.

PiYo classes combine the strength training aspects of Pilates with the core training and stretching elements of yoga to create a workout adaptable to all ages and fitness levels.

Ms Malhan said:"I used to take classes at Balloch Village Hall but since lockdown this has been impossible.

"So I have begun providing three 30-minute virtual PiYo classes each week. Participants are asked to donate between £1 and £5 to take part in each class.

"All proceeds go towards buying food for the Blythswood food bank in Glebe Street, Inverness.

"So far I have provided 17 PiYo classes and we’ve raised £508.

"I have completed five large food drops at the food bank. This amount will continue to rise with more classes planned for each week."

The classes take place at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and an 11am class on Saturdays.

Ms Malhan continued: "I am absolutely delighted with how much we have raised so far and so grateful for all those who’ve been getting involved.

"I’ve had people asking if they can just donate towards my next shop without engaging in PiYo too – everyone has been so generous. I’ve had participants from throughout Scotland and England and even South Africa!"
