THE first tenant is expected to move into Inverness Airport Business Park within the next three weeks, a significant step forward for the development which has been badly hit by the economic downturn.

Bond Air Services, part of the Bond Aviation Group, is leasing a new hangar and support buildings next to the runway. The site will become the new base for the region’s air ambulance and provide helicopter support for the Northern Lighthouse Board.

“We are very proud to be the first occupier as we effectively launched the business park,” said Shaun Strain, Bond’s director of ground operations.

“We have a strong commitment to growth in the region and our new facility has been designed for future expansion.”

The business park is a joint venture between Highlands and Islands Airports, Moray Estates and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, with support from Highland Council. Roxhill Developments has been hired to help attract tenants but attempts to get the project off the ground have been hampered by the economic climate.

However, park chairman Alan Price is hopeful of announcing more deals soon.

“We are in discussions at present with a variety of organisations,” he said. “After our initial delight at confirming the lease with Bond last year, we are very excited about what lies ahead in the future.

“It has taken many years of hard work and planning but we are now in business. We are working closely with Roxhill and are confident that the business park will provide much needed jobs and investment for the local construction sector.”
