A routine check by police of a car in Inverness revealed that the driver was under the influence of drugs.

Former Portree man Derek Orr, now of Renfrew Road, Ayrshire tested positive for cocaine on August 1, 2020 in the roadside test in Barn Church Road.

His reading was 333mcgs of the narcotic's metabolyte. The safe limit is 50mcgs.

The 38-year-old was fined £640 by Sheriff Robert Frazer and banned from driving for a year after admitting drug-driving.

Orr, who represented himself, told the court: "My life has changed now. I no longer take drugs. I have a new job in the construction industry and I'm subject to frequent drug testing."
