An adventurer from Inverness will “hug” her last mountain in her mammoth Munro tour challenge this weekend.
Shona Macpherson (45), from Ballifeary, who has shared her climbing pursuits alongside poignant reflections as she has travelled around Scotland, plans her last climb up Beinn Sgritheall, near Glenelg, tomorrow.
She started her challenge on November 1, 2020, and had initially hoped to complete her challenge on August 10 – making it 282 Munros, which is a mountain over 3000 feet, in 282 days – but given the circumstances with Covid, is completing it a month later.
Fundraising for Mikeysline and the Speaking of Suicide Podcast, she has raised more than £3800 to support the two groups.
She said: “My last Munro hug is planned for September 11 and it’s Beinn Sgritheall. I’ve absolutely loved this Munro hugging adventure and have fallen even more in love with my homeland.
“It’s been fun to share the stories and beauty with others through my Instagram @Walkwildcoach especially when some folks couldn’t get outdoors during lockdowns.
“I’m so grateful to everyone for sharing this brilliant journey with me in whatever way you’ve been able, your support has carried me on the harder days.”
She’ll climb her final summit with a group of friends. “This challenge has been hard – especially in the winter months – but I know that many folks have harder mountains to climb on a daily basis,” she added.
“For some people getting up and facing another day is far harder than summiting 282 Munros in 10 months.”
