A COMMUNITY has hit out after plans for 155 new homes were recommended for approval by council planners.

Members of the south planning applications committee will consider the application by Tulloch Homes to build at Druid Temple between Inshes and Milton of Leys next week.

Tulloch Homes says the area is zoned for housing and the plan would help the council meet its own target for new homes.

However in dozens of objections residents have raised fears about traffic, drainage and the ability of local infrastructure to cope.

This includes schools, with local councillor Ken Gowans saying even contributions from Tulloch towards creating new capacity would not help.

“Milton of Leys Primary, which might take some overflow, is being capped, and Millburn Academy is on about 100 per cent capacity at the moment and there is no room there for development,” he said.

“So it doesn’t matter how much the developers pay, there is no room in our schools for the children that will populate these houses.”

A spokesman for Tulloch Home said: “This site has been zoned for housing in the Inverness Area Local Development Plan for many years and we’ve been liaising closely with Highland Council officials. The proposed development also includes affordable homes, which are in increasing demand.”
