Road improvements to remove two bends on the B9006 between Croy and Clephanton have led to concerns the work has caused higher traffic speeds.

At a meeting of Croy and Culloden Community Council, resident Jan Baird called for a replacement sign to be erected at the junction near Croy Community Centre to mitigate the risks to drivers turning off into the village.

Mrs Baird felt removal of the “leafy bends”, as they were known, allowed traffic to drive at greater speed.

She said: “The sign to Croy alerting people of the junction is discoloured and this adds to the risk when you are stopped in the centre of the road waiting to turn. It needs replaced so drivers approaching the junction are made aware.”

Highland councillor Trish Robertson said: “They should never have taken out the leafy bends in the first place.”

Lesley Stoddart, community council secretary, believed the work was done to improve the route for timber lorries.

Cllr Robertson said she would speak to the roads department to see if there was a solution.
