A TRESPASSER on the railway line has caused disruption for travellers on the Far North Line - with two trains terminated early and alterations to the timetable.

The 6.18am Wick to Inverness train terminated at Thurso owing to a trespasser on the line at Thurso.

And the 7am Inverness to Wick service terminated at Lairg. ScotRail confirmed that one D&E 16-seater minibus was intended to leave Lairg at 9.15am to call at stations to Wick.

An additional train also departed Lairg heading south to Inverness at 8.52am, calling at stations on the way.

A spokesman for ScotRail said: “We had reports of a trespasser in the Thurso area. We have been advised that officers have attended and the person has now been taken to a place of safety.”

ScotRail warned that knock-on disruption on the Far North Line was expected to last until around 10am.

However, the 8.02am Wick to Inverness service was reported to be running as scheduled.
