An Inverness family has raised hundreds of pounds for a local autism support facility.

Danielle McLeish’s son Connor (4) was diagnosed with the condition earlier this year.

Since then she has been fundraising with the help of her family and friends to raise money for the Pines Centre at Drummond School, which supported little Connor.

Miss McLeish and her daughter Christina Rose (7) took part in the Unicorn Pageant, supported by clothing firm Rogue Attitude.

The family also organised a medium night at the Chieftain Hotel.

In total they raised £366.64, and donated the sum to the centre along with a number of items to be raffled off.

"Drummond have been raising money for playground equipment as well as the library so part of the money will go towards that," Miss McLeish said.

"We also donated a few items to them as well for a raffle, which will hopefully raise even more.

"The textile company I work for sent me a load of throw blankets and things like that so they will go into the raffle as well.

"Pines will get some raffle prizes as well as the cheque.

"My mum and my brother came along as well. It was great that they were able to come along hey have been a great support for Connor.

"I don’t know if people realise the effect autism has on a family as a whole. It’s good for people to be educated, and it’s good for us to be able to help in some small way."

Now the family are planning to make their fundraising drive an annual event, and they have already had backing from local businesses.

Miss McLeish insisted that the whole family are determined to do their bit to support the organisations which continue to support Connor.

"We have decided to make our fundraiser an annual thing," she added.

"The Chieftain Hotel have said we can use their function room whenever we like for our next event which is brilliant.

"We definitely want to match what we’ve raised this year, and if possible, make it even bigger and better."
