A DRUNK man who was warned by police over drinking in the street later caused a disturbance in a pub.

Sheriff Gary Aitken heard James Murphy (28), from Sunderland, had alcohol removed from him when he was seen drunk and drinking from a container in Church Street in Inverness.

The incident happened at about 12.30am on July 21 and as well as the confiscation, police also took a note of his name and date of birth.

Less than an hour later however, the same officers were called to attend Lauders bar, also in Church Street, where Murphy was being disruptive.

He was arrested and it was later discovered the original details he had given police were false.

Depute fiscal David Morton told Inverness Sheriff Court that door staff had asked Murphy to leave Lauders after he lifted a female customer off her feet, but he refused.

Arrested and taken to the city’s Burnett Road police station, he appeared to have a seizure and was taken to Raigmore Hospital.

“Medical staff were dealing with him but he seems to have made a miraculous recovery and began being difficult, shouting and swearing in A&E,” Mr Morton said.

A search of him by police also revealed a set of headphones that he admitted he had taken from another customer in the pub.

After admitting behaving in an abusive manner at the hospital and Lauders, theft and giving police false information, Murphy was fined a total of £600.
