FAKE £50 and £20 notes are circulating in Inverness and Beauly, police have warned following recent incidents.
The public have been urged to be on the lookout for the fakes after a number of reports of them being tendered at businesses in the Highland capital and another incident in Beauly last week.
Inspector Jane Mackenzie said: "We are urging members of the public, particularly retail workers who deal with cash sales, to check bank notes carefully before completing a transaction.
"Counterfeit notes often do look plausible at first glance so it is important that you check any notes you receive thoroughly.
"Anyone who deliberately uses counterfeit currency is committing a crime and we will thoroughly investigate all instances reported to us."
