People looking for work in the Inverness area are being invited to a two-day jobs fair in the city centre this month.

It will be held in the food court of Eastgate Shopping Centre next Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm on both days.

A number of local businesses with vacancies are already involved – including the Kingsmills Hotel, Beggs shoe shops and many based at the Eastgate – and it is hoped that more will get on board.

As well local businesses staff from the Jobcentre and Developing The Young Workforce will also be in attendance to help jobseekers.

Veronica Mackintosh, the centre’s administration and commercialisation manager, said they could probably accommodate around 15 exhibitors at the free event on each day.

She said it was a chance for job seekers to see what vacancies were currently available and it covered more than one sector – currently retail and hospitality.

“Within each sector there are lots of different types of job,” she said.

“If they go into these sectors they can have a good future.

“If you’ve got driving ambition you can get yourself where you want to be – people can have futures in these sectors.

“It’s just trying to get them thinking about it.”

The event started as a small idea and, after a meeting with Inverness Business Improvement District, Miss Mackintosh, who was previously the commercial manager with Debenhams, said she was hoping that BID members would also get involved.

“All they have got to do is contact me,” she said.

She said the advantages of the venue included the size of the venue, its central location and good accessibility.

A previous event held at Macdonalds Resort in Aviemore had resulted in positive feedback, she added.
