The Inverness Openarts workshops are designed to provide opportunities for people aged 16 and over to engage in creative activities of their choice in a friendly, non-judgmental environment.
The drop-in sessions require no booking and are led by four local artists who will be on hand to guide attendees through their creative process. A range of art materials will be on offer for participants. The sessions will be focused on exploration and experimentation with no pressure to create a masterpiece or follow a traditional art class curriculum.
Teas, coffees, and biscuits will be offered and friendly chatter encouraged.
Forming a programme that follows school term times, sessions rotate between four community venues: The Bike Shed in Merkinch, Hilton Community Centre; The Bught Stop and Inverness Creative Academy’s workshop space.
Project coordinator Bonnie Forrest said: “Wasps’ Openarts sessions offer safe spaces for exploring creativity without judgement.
“Setting Openarts apart from traditional art classes, there is no curriculum or list of expectations about what participants should or shouldn’t create.
“Removing the pressure to be ‘good’ at art frees people to discover artmaking as a tool for supporting and enhancing wellbeing.”
She added that a team of four artist facilitators would welcome visitors and support them to develop creative interests.
