Where has 2021 gone? I can’t believe, as I write this, that we are nearing the end of the year. It has yet again been a strange 12 months, dare I say better than last year? I think, confidently, I can say it has, albeit nowhere near where we would like it to have been.

Taking a look back at the last few months we have been really fortunate to share good news stories inside the Executive. As a business community we have made the best of an unusual year. A few weeks ago the Executive team attended the Highland Business Awards which was held in person at the Drumossie Hotel. It was great that the Inverness Chamber of Commerce was able to hold the awards in person, but also innovate and offer it as a hybrid event streaming the awards virtually to those who could not attend in person.

What was encouraging was seeing Highland Businesses being able to thrive despite the challenges that have faced them during the last 20 months, and being awarded and recognised for this.

I will let you read more about the awards in our last issue of the year which is due out next week.

Speaking of the next issue, we have been delighted to work with a number of businesses again promoting their services and products. There is a feature focus on Highland and Moray connectivity in this issue, which is led by the team at Future Comms. They are our cover story and give us insight into what they do.

We will also welcome a new monthly columnist who knows all about connectivity. Fibre 1 have come on board with their Connectivity column which will feature monthly from Aimee Walker, so be sure to look out for that.

InBusiness, the Inverness Chamber newsletter, features in its usual quarterly spot with all the latest news from its members, including the Movers & Shakers.

November was certainly back to awards season, as we also had the Scottish Highlands & Islands Rural Economy (SHIREs) Awards and Conference, held using event platform Bevvy. The conference was held during the day with great content that was enjoyed by everyone who attended virtually. It was particularly enjoyable to listen to the Young Entrepreneurs Panel and learn about how they have returned to the Highlands to set up their businesses in the rural economy. The conference was then followed by the awards ceremony which celebrated the diverse range of businesses in the region. If you missed it, don’t worry the benefit of hosting them virtually was that it was all recorded and can be enjoyed at a later stage. Use the links below to view both conference and awards.

We also feature them in the December issue of Executive.
