A huge celebration of Scotland’s involvement in the Euro 2024 football finals is being planned for Inverness this summer.

Inverness Ice Centre is to host the unofficial ‘Highland Eurozone’ with a giant screen, bar and street food vendors serving fans during the June championships in Germany.

Scotland play the hosts in the finals’ opener on June 14.

They then face Switzerland on June 19 and Hungary on June 23.

The Bught Park premises will air the group stage matches live on a six-metre wide screen.

The business says the venue will be ticketed, suitable for families and able to hold around 700 people.

Inverness Ice Centre CEO Gordon Barron said: “We don’t have the climate to be outside, we decided the best way for it to be successful was what we’re planning to do.

“We’ve been working on it for some time.

“Early indications are, in all the conversations, that there should be the demand for it.

The Ice Centre has a long tradition of hosting music gigs by leading artists and other events including boxing and Inverness Strictly.

Another fan zone is being considered at Falcon Square in a proposal being led by Eastgate Shopping Centre manager Chris Kershaw and Inverness BID director Don Lawson.
