A NEW awards scheme set up to honour city centre businesses has attracted more than 120 nominations.

Under the scheme, members of the public are invited to formalerly enter their favourite firm for the accolade, which rewards the businesses that go the extra mile.

The initiative was launched earlier this month by the Inverness Business Improvement District (Bid) in partnership with the Inverness Courier.

BID manager Mike Smith was impressed with the response from the public.

He said: “We have had 123 nominations. It’s been phenomenal. There’s been a massive amount of interest and there are a lot of people putting forward their favourite companies. It just shows the amount of interest in the businesses in the city centre.”

Only firms in the Inverness Bid area will be eligible for the awards. Shoppers have until next Friday, April 7, to make their choice in any or all of the seven categories.

Awards will be presented in Inverness Town House on May 17.

Completed nomination forms can be sent toor dropped off at the Inverness Courier office in Stadium Road or in branded postboxes near Ginger in the Victorian Market or Trespass and Marks & Spencer in the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
