A 21-year-old Highlander has showed she’s a cut above for charity.

Emily Shread, from Dingwall, shaved her hair off in aid of Inverness Women’s Aid.

The hair-raising activity at the bandstand in Strathpeffer generated more than £800 for the cause.

Miss Shread chose to support Inverness Women’s Aid because she felt it “helps so many women in abusive relationships”.

She added: “I knew I had to do something that would get people’s attention and the idea to shave my hair just came to mind.

“Once the idea was there I just couldn’t get it out of my head. I also thought I could donate the hair to the Little Princess Trust but sadly it wasn’t long enough.”

An online crowdfunding page received donations.

“I didn’t expect this level of generosity – I’m truly overwhelmed by everyone,” Miss Shread said. “We’re still counting donations from the day but in total we have managed to raise over £800.

“Thank you everyone for supporting this, thank you to the Strathpeffer community who came and made the event possible after my original venue let me down. Thank you everyone who has donated and for those who still wish to donate, I still have the JustGiving page open.”
