A COMPANY seeking planning consent to create an energy storage facility on land at Househill Farm has offered to make a presentation to Nairn River Community Council about its proposals.

Community council chairman Hamish Bain told members they have had consultations with the company, which has promised it will be low impact and tree planting will be undertaken with minimal impact on local wildlife.

The community council agreed to take up the offer and a suitable date will be arranged.

Huddersfield-based renewable energy consultants The Energy Workshop has sent households in the area details of its plans as part of a public consultation, required by law because it is deemed a major development.

The proposal is for 50 battery storage units, which would be accompanied by transformers, to store electrical energy when there is an excess of generation on the network.

The energy would then be exported when required by peaks of demand or to cover generation outages.

The location is partly enclosed by woodland south of the existing Househill Farm Shop and Café.

The company’s planning director, Dan Grierson, said: “The energy storage containers would be based on steel containers finished in grey or green and the site would be surrounded by timber fencing and a significant amount of landscaping in the form of native tree and other planting.

“The site would not be lit when operating and would generate negligible levels of traffic once operating.”

A planning application is expected to be lodged this month.
