Kind-hearted Rotarians have helped to spread a little Easter joy among children displaced by the war in Ukraine after giving those in Inverness wee chocolate treats.

Easter is a special time to be with family for Ukrainians. So, for those living in hotels in the Highlands with no hosts to care for them, Rotary Club of Inverness Culloden took the initiative to let them know they have not been forgotten, despite being hundreds of miles from home. During Easter weekend they handed out 50 chocolate eggs to Ukrainian children.

The Rotarians enlisted the help of two Inverness supermarkets, Tesco Extra at Inverness Shopping Park and Morrisons, to donate the Easter treats.

Roddy Wood, from the Rotary Club of Inverness Culloden, was among those who helped to hand over eggs to youngsters staying in two of the local hotels on Saturday. More eggs were delivered to other Inverness-based Ukrainians on Sunday.

Derek McRae, also of the Culloden club, said: "Knowing how important Easter is to Ukrainians, we were more than delighted to be able to bring a bit of happiness to the children, many of whom are separated from their dads."
