Bargain hunters will be out in force in Inverness on Boxing Day hoping to bag a few bargains in the traditional sales.

Tills are expected to be ringing from as early as 6am when the city’s branch of Next was due to open its doors to catch the early rush – last year there were an estimated 70 to 80 people waiting in line outside the outlet in the Eastgate Shopping Centre.

A spokeswoman for the Eastgate branch of Next confirmed doors are due to open at 6am again this year for the annual sale.

Centre manager Jackie Cuddy said she expected most outlets in the mall would be holding a sale on Boxing Day.

“It’s really important but Boxing Day is a difficult one now – most sales are online on Christmas Day,” she said. “They are not as big as they were. In years gone by the sales were kept to Boxing Day. Also there can be a lot of returns on Boxing Day so it’s a bit of a mix.”

However she said there probably would be steady trading over a 10-day period following Christmas Day.
