DW Sports, which has an outlet at Inverness Shopping Park, has said it will enter administration.

The move by the gym and sports retailer places 1700 jobs at risk.

This latest news follows last month's announcement that it was planning to close 25 stores.

It is understood the move to enter administration has followed a difficult trading due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The company's website has ceased trading and a spokesman said it would work with administrators to save as many of its gyms as possible, however all of its shops would eventually close.

The company, which was founded by former Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan, operated 73 gyms and 75 stores across the UK.
