An ambitious rewilding initiative near Loch Ness was among the ten most beautiful sites in the UK according to a recent study.

The list – compiled by comparison site Utility Bidder – saw Trees For Life's rewilding site in Glenmoriston ranking seventh in the country according to visitor reviews.

With its rewilding centre having opened only this spring – and having hosted Chris Packham's latest wildlife programme in October – the project was found to have more than 46 per cent reviews containing the words "beautiful", "amazing", or "stunning".

The top spot was taken by Mar Lodge in the Cairngorms – with more than 72 per cent reviews detected to be including the flattering terms.

Scotland takes the prime spot also for numbers of initiatives, with 17 rewilding projects across the country.

The areas with the most rewilding projects, all with two, are Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll, and the Scottish Highlands.

Dundreggan is part of Affric Highlands, the UK’s largest rewilding landscape which will potentially cover over 500,000 acres – restoring nature while strengthening land-based livelihoods and creating economic opportunities.

Trees for Life launched the Affric Highlands initiative in 2021, in partnership with Rewilding Europe and an initial coalition of communities and landowners.
