The RNLI is having the new station, close to the existing base at Temple Pier, Drumnadrochit, built at Urquhart Bay.

It will house a new, larger lifeboat, due to be delivered when the station is complete.

The Atlantic 85 B class will replace the 75 B class boat being used by the 13-strong crew.

Maeve Ryan, volunteer at Loch Ness, said work was progressing well.

She said: “It’s getting so close now and that’s terrific because the RNLI has been getting busier year-on-year with 32 shouts this year, which is the busiest one that we have had so far.”

Ms Ryan said the crew members were looking forward to taking delivery of the new boat.

She added: “The old boat will stay with us for a while, as a second boat, until everybody is trained up to use the new one.”

The latest phase of building work involves drilling for the ground source heating.
