A train journey ended with police catching a drugs courier on arrival in Inverness.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard Nikki Cartwright (27), of the city’s Broomhill Court, had been on the 11.41am ScotRail train from Stirling to Inverness on April 21, 2019.

Sheriff Sara Matheson was told a fellow passenger contacted British Transport Police via its text message crime reporting service to advise them of a group of passengers believed to be taking drugs.

A description of the group and other details were given to police and officers met the train upon its arrival.

Cartwright and her partner were detained for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

In Cartwright’s suitcase a foil bag was found, containing 57.3g of MDMA – commonly known as ecstasy – at 77 per cent purity, with a value of around £2000.

Cartwright pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs with intent to supply and sentence was deferred until October 17 for a report.
