Cops trailed Joshua MacPhee (26) for six miles from a point near the Munlochy junction of the A9 out towards Muir of Ord after spotting him overtaking several vehicles on the nearside lane of the dual carriageway.

Despite their siren and blue lights both being activated MacPhee failed to stop.

Police only caught up with him as he was forced to slow down because of a series of bends.

Depute fiscal Ross Carvel said: “Police were directly behind him when he stopped at the Tore roundabout, but it appeared he was oblivious to their presence and he headed towards Muir of Ord.”

Mr Carvel added that MacPhee, of Ord Road, Muir of Ord undertook several high speed overtakes during the pursuit.

“He was forced to slow down by a series of bends and he then became aware of the police behind him and stopped,” he said.

MacPhee admitted dangerous driving on September 29 last year as defence agent Shahid Latif said he had “no explanation” for his driving.

He was fined £2000 and banned from driving for 18 months.

He will also have to resit the extended driving test before he can drive again.
