DRIVERS on the A9 are being warned to plan ahead as a programme of resurfacing works and bridge repairs gets underway next month.

In Inverness both north and southbound carriageways of the road at Raigmore will be affected for 12 nights from November 14-25.

Maintenance works there to replace joints across two bridges of the dual carriageway will see alternate lane closures each night between 7pm and 7am.

Similarly, further south at Slochd, temporary traffic lights will be in place to allow daytime bridge works to be carried out from November 1-5.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative, said: "Trunk road safety is of the utmost importance to BEAR Scotland.

"We appreciate works of this nature can be disruptive and we’ve planned the programme to take place outwith the peak tourist season with works located at busier sections of the A9 taking place overnight when traffic flows are lower.

"While our teams will do all they can to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly and safely as possible, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland for the most up to date journey information."

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org or on Twitter @trafficscotland
