A new driverless bus has been spotted travelling around Inverness Campus.
Two readers contacted the Inverness Courier yesterday to say they had spotted the vehicle on roads near Inverness UHI.
It is thought that the vehicle was being tested, rather than carrying passengers – although at least one person was seen on board, according to witnesses.
While the vehicle might be capable of driving itself without being controlled by an individual, a driver will be present in the vehicle at all times. The driving will be delegated to the vehicle, but the driver will be ready to take control whenever they are required to do so.
Understood to be Scotland’s first Autonomous Vehicle (AV) pilot, the bus will be used on a 2km route connecting the campus and Inverness Shopping Park.
