Driver’s problem may be deeper after he was found to be heavily intoxicated after crashing his Vauxhall Corsa on to a verge near his Inverness home earlier this year

A 49-year-old motorist crashed his vehicle on to a verge near his Inverness home earlier this year.
But when police arrived to check the Vauxhall Corsa, driven by Mark Davidson, they found he was “heavily intoxicated”, fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told Inverness Sheriff Court.
A breath test revealed Davidson, of King Duncan’s Road, had a reading of 154mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.
He admitted drink-driving on January 10 near the junction of Millburn Road and King Duncan’s Road.
Sheriff Gary Aitken told him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, banned him from driving for two years and ordered him to have alcohol counselling. He was also placed under 18 months of social work supervision.
Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson said: “We accept this is a worrying reading. Given his lack of record, this could be dealt with by unpaid work and alcohol treatment. I think the problem may be deeper than he realises.”
