Police originally stopped the young man on suspicion of drink-driving.

But although a breath sample for alcohol proved negative for Jordan Grant (24), of Mackintosh Road, Inverness, he tested positive for cannabis.

Grant admitted at Inverness Sheriff Court to driving with an unsafe amount of cannabis in his system in the city's Longman Road on December 21, 2020.

His reading was 7mcgs when the safe limit is 2mcgs.

Defence solicitor David Patterson told the court: “This was his first offence and there are no penalty points on his licence. He is not a regular cannabis user and had met up with friends.

"It was a foolish decision to take cannabis and he thought he was fit to drive.”

Grant was fined £340 and banned from driving for a year.
