A former Nairn man who failed to start a community payback order with 60 hours of unpaid work because he is on remand for other more serious matters was jailed for seven months for breaching the order.

Lewis Forbes, who appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court by video link from Inverness Prison, asked his lawyer Rory Gowans to have the order revoked and a prison sentence imposed as an alternative because he was not going to be able to fulfil the court's instruction.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank was told that the 33-year-old had pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving at a previous court and threatening or abusive behaviour towards police after he had been arrested on July 9, 2022.

The unpaid work and a one-year driving ban had been imposed as an alternative to custody.

Mr Gowans told the court: "This was the start of his life unravelling. He is in custody on other matters and wanted this dealt with now."
