Police received a tip-off that a car was 'weaving about the road' between Boat of Garten and Dulnain Bridge.

Colleagues were alerted to look out for the vehicle which was not stopped until Inverness on Millburn Road on March 5, this year.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 54 year old Mark Tudhope was behind the wheel and smelling of alcohol.

A test revealed that he had 57 mcgs of alcohol in his system when the legal limit is 22mcgs.

Tudhope of Craigie Avenue, Boat of Garten admitted driving with excess alcohol.

He was fined £320 and banned from driving for a year.

However Sheriff Sara Matheson certified him as suitable for the drink drive rehabilitation course.

If he successfully completes it, he will earn a three month discount on his disqualification.

His solicitor Natalie Paterson told the court: "He is on benefits and he has had a long-standing difficulty with alcohol.

"He had been drinking the night before into the early hours of the morning."

Sheriff Mathesont told Tudhope: "Your drinking is catching up with you. You are going to have to address it."
