CALLOUS vandals have deliberately damaged dozens of gravestones in an Inverness cemetery.

Around 35 to 40 gravestones have been targeted in Tomnahurich Cemetery in the past fortnight, police revealed this morning. Some were pushed over, others damaged and some were even set alight, the force said.

A spokeswoman said: "The damage amounts to several thousands of pounds and has taken place within the last two weeks.

"Enquiries are taking place locally with additional patrols of the area around the cemetery.

"Police would urge anyone who has any information on the damage to make contact via 101 or Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111."
