An Inverness couple have each been presented with a rare accolade which recognises service to a global community organisation.

Jim and Sheila Cooper were given a surprise presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship at the recent Rotary Club of Inverness summer lunch.

Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary International and fellowships in his name are only presented by the club on rare occasions – it is unusual for a couple to be presented with one.

Inverness Rotary president Alan Nelson made the presentation to Mr and Mrs Cooper at a lunch with other Rotarians and Inner Wheel members at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.

Mr Cooper, a former senior bank manager, has been an active Rotarian for 35 years including a stint as president in the Inverness club’s 75th anniversary year.

More recently, he has been part of a team publishing a history to mark the centenary of Rotary in Inverness.

Mrs Cooper, meanwhile, has been a leading light with international women’s organisation, Inner Wheel, giving outstanding service over many years at club, district and association levels.
