An eight-year-old girl from Moy raised more than £2000 for charity by taking a dook a day.

Nicola McCready, who attends Strathdearn Primary School in Tomatin, took her daily plunge and managed to raise cash for Highland Hospice.

The fundraising effort took place throughout September, usually around 6am to 6.30am, at Loch Moy near Moy.

And she was helped by a number of other volunteers who were known

as Team Moy – Davie Cameron, Sharon Cameron, Eilidh Cameron, Christine MacDonald and Jess the dog.

Proud mum Ashley Hinshelwood said: “Nicola has done absolutely amazing and we are so proud of her and so thankful to everyone who has donated and supported her through her dooks.”

She said that, as well as Team Moy, Nicola managed to get others to join her in the water and added: “Ally a visitor over from Lewis, her uncle, the best would have been when her granny turned up at 6am one morning to join her in the water.

“On the last day she managed to get all gamekeepers from Moy Estate along with her dad, John McCready, who is the shepherd, in with her.

“But the special thanks has to go to everyone who donated and supported Nicola through the whole month, especially Team Moy!”

Nicola said she saw updates on similar fundraising efforts appearing on her mother’s facebook page last year and when she saw they were doing it again this year she asked if she could join in to help raise money for the hospice after she was told about “what they do for poorly people”.

She said she did not expect to raise so much cash and added: “We set my target to raise just £250 but I am so happy with what I have managed to raise.”

And, even though it was September she said the water was still a bit chilly. She said: “It was freezing! But once you were in the water it was okay.”
