We all know the story of Cinderella. She flees the ball at midnight and loses one of her shoes. Now, one Inverness-hotel is living the real-life version of it - minus Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother!

Whitebridge Hotel near Loch Ness is well known for its quirkiness, with bespoke and upcycled items strewn throughout the premises. Within the ladies bathrooms there are shoes hanging from the ceiling, to represent a musical theme. Unfortunately one half of a pair of sparkly, multi-colour shoes has mysteriously disappeared.

Hotel owner Bella Kilgannon said: “The shoe that went missing was a multi-coloured sparkly shoe.

“We had the pair in there as an ode to the LGBT+ community. It was our wee stamp on it.

“When we first realised the shoe went missing, we searched high and low around the hotel, and put out a campaign on Facebook.

“Since then its grown arms and legs.”

Now the hoteliers are looking at the brighter side of the situation and have used it to shine a spotlight on the hospitality industry.

“We realised it was a great opportunity to raise awareness about the hospitality industry being in good form again, and people having a good time”, said Ms Kilgannon.

“It's not just about the shoe! We’ve decided to put a positive spin on it and it has become a light-hearted topic!”

As part of the hotel’s Boxing Day quiz, contestants had to create a matching shoe for the one that has been left on its own.

“We had a winner last night, so we can stand it with the one that is left”, said Ms Kilgannon

A regular at the hotel has even done a bit of creative writing about the event, and dubbed it ‘Shoe-dunnit?!’

If you know where the shoe is, then please get in touch with the hotel on 01456 486226.
