IS your laugh particularly infectious and does it knock the socks off the competition – then you may be in with a shot in Scotland's first ever 'Laughing Championships'.

The Scottish Laughing Championship, which is being billed as a "fun and friendly" competition, is seeking entries – and the best of the bunch will not only be crowned the "Nation's Laughing Champion" but represent Scotland at the World contest next month.

Inverness-based Laughter Yoga Leader, Natalie Gilray and expat Duncan Cook, a Laughter Yoga Master, will host the Scottish heats online over the Zoom video platform on Sunday, April 30 at 7pm.

“In Scotland, we love to laugh, and we are not afraid to laugh at ourselves," said the pair. "Which is perfect, as we are looking for Scots with the most infectious laugh to enter the first ever Scottish Laughing Championship.”

Contestants will compete in a series of laughter challenges. The last contestant standing and laughing will be crowned the Nation’s Laughing Champion and they will represent Scotland at The World Laughing Championship on Sunday, May 21.

Organisers say the goal of the championship is “to create more contagious laughter in the world and to elevate the pursuit of joy and happiness”. The world contest is the brainchild of Canadian Albert Nerenberg, a filmmaker, hypnotist and self-styled 'laughologist".

To enter, people should upload a one-minute video of themselves laughing to ‘The Scottish Laughing Championship 2023!’ Facebook group:

Contestants must be over 18 and resident in Scotland. Entry will remain open until Saturday, April 29.
