Scotland’s smallest distillery has been shortlisted for a prestigious food and drink award.

Great Glen Distillery’s Premium Scottish Dry Gin is one of five hopefuls in the Distilling Product of the Year category for this year’s Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

The distillery is based in Drumnadrochit with its gin having already taken a silver in the World Gin Awards this year.

The awards, in their 21st year, will be handed out at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on September 8.

Great Glen Distillery co-founder Daniel Campbell said: “Adam and I are thrilled to be shortlisted in the Food and Drink Excellence Awards.

“Particularly when we are Scotland’s smallest distillery and there are so many amazing independent distilleries spanning the whole of the country.

“Being shortlisted reflects the hard work and dedication of our amazing small team based in Drumnadrochit.

“Scotland has world class producers and being a part of the Scotland Food and Drink scene is a tremendous honour. We will be having a few G&Ts to celebrate, even more if we go and win the award.’’

John Davidson, deputy chief executive and strategy director at Scotland Food and Drink, said: “The excellence awards play an important role in recognising the innovation and creativity of everyone that is building the reputation of Scotland’s larder.

“It was fantastic to see such a range of producers and individuals in this year’s entries and massive congratulations to all those that have been named in the shortlist.

“We can’t wait to bring everyone together after a challenging couple of years and celebrate in September.”

Ashley Connolly, local buying manager at event sponsor Asda, said: “I was delighted to be involved in the judging of this year’s Excellence Awards and it was wonderful to see such a high calibre of entries across all product categories. A massive congratulations to all of the individuals and businesses that have been shortlisted.”
